Lanes and
river courses of Xin He Street, in 1940s, by Shao Du
Although
nowadays, the typical look of water town can hardly be traced in the urban
area, yet over 60 years ago, the city shared many characteristics with Wu
Town and Zhou Zhuang (typical water towns in East China): lanes, river
courses, and ferryboats in front of every household. In this picture, we can
clearly see the bridge over the river course and the city wall on Mount
Song-tai in the distance.
